Return to Work - New Employer (Job-Fast)

Please use the contact form to request a copy of the summary sheet for this service.

JobFast is a dedicated division of CAC that was created to best assist injured clients to return to work with new employers. The consultants in the JobFast division all specialise in employment placement services and can tailor a program of job search assistance to best meet the needs of the client to successfully find new employment. As a result of numerous successful placements, JobFast has created an extensive network of employers who are keen to take on WorkCover or TAC clients and provide them with employment. Our consultants can also assist clients with resume preparation, interview skills and job search techniques using both newspapers and the internet to source job opportunities. Job placements that meet the clients abilities as noted by their doctor and as determined in the vocational assessment are our goal.

The steps to assist job seekers are as listed below:

Vocational Assessment and Report

Job-Fast was established in recognition of the need for a specialised, high quality and cost effective Vocational Service for physically injured and psychologically affected WorkCover and TAC claimants that are unable to return to their pre-injury employer.

The approach of Job-Fast is to expose clients to a structured and supportive program that requires them to develop and demonstrate a pro-active approach to their vocational rehabilitation. This initiative has proven to be highly successful in assisting clients to achieve prompt and suitable work placements.

A formal vocational assessment is undertaken to establish the full scope of a clients’ vocational options with consideration of their physical capabilities and education/employment history. This Assessment takes up to 5 hours to complete and often involves extensive research into labour market data for some or all of the suggested vocational options. The worker, insurer and treater are all provided with a copy of this report. Where appropriate, our consultants might suggest vocational retraining options to increase the client’s vocational options.

Employment placement & JSA services

Once a vocational assessment has been undertaken and services have been approved for us to undertake job search activities, the job search process is then initiated by our consultants. In addition to job search activities, our consultants also are responsible for the provision of counselling, advice, guidance, and motivation to the client.

Job-Fast Training

With the implementation of new Job-Seeking models by the Transport Accident Commission and Victorian WorkCover Authority, Job Fast has implemented two new training half-day training modules.

The purpose of those modules is to meet the requirements of the new models by providing clients with the skills required to become independent job seekers (See the Job-Fast Brochure for details).

In House Facilities for Job Seekers

To assist clients and encourage active job seeking activities Job fast provides additional assistance to clients by providing in-house facilitates at each of our offices. (See the Job-Fast Brochure for details).

Vocational Retraining

It is possible that the worker may not be able to return to work in their previous capacity and may require retraining. Alternatively, they may require a short retraining program to bring their skills up to date with industry standards. Either way, vocational retraining programs are only enlisted if they are mandatory to the worker gaining new employment and are generally short programs, which will facilitate a realistic job placement outcome. Clearly, it is also important that the new areas of employment will not exacerbate the worker’s symptoms.

Job-Seeking Contracts

Workers can be asked to sign job-seeking contracts. These contracts detail the minimum standards that workers need to meet in terms of job seeking. Workers are notified that failure to meet the standards detailed in the job seeking contract will be reported to the claims officer and could result in a termination/suspension of their benefits.

Work Site Assessment

When an injured worker locates suitable employment with a new employer, a work site assessment is usually undertaken to ascertain that the duties are suitable and that the return to work is sustainable.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

These can be used where there is insufficient evidence as to medical restrictions for a return to work plan, or where there is a dispute between the treater and medical examiner in terms of the worker’s capacity for work. FCE’s are an objective measure of the worker’s capacity that can be invaluable to aiding a return to work program.

Post-Placement Support

It is important that workers who have achieved a successful placement with a new employer are adequately supported during the first 3 months of their new job. Our consultants understand that it is critical any problems identified by the worker in their job are dealt with quickly and expediently in order to preserve the placement.
